Alan brings great commercial experience to his clients, having enjoyed a vibrant career within the automotive industry. Building on his BA(Hons) in Business Studies and HNC in Mechanics & Production Engineering, Alan’s first role with Lucas Industries gave him a practical and solid foundation across the technical, commercial and manufacturing functions of the business. As a Business Manager at Lucas, Alan’s achievements over a twenty year period were many; he grew the business by gaining four new strategic customers within an 18 month period and increased turnover from €5 to €15m, showing an increased return on sales from 2% to 20% over five years. Building on this success, Alan then went on to work with a global tier 1 wiring system supplier where he was responsible for the Ford Motor Company account, setting strategic direction and P&L management of a global leadership team. Most notably, Alan reduced the cost base by 20% over three years, whilst securing €50m of new business during the same period. This process driven, commercial base informs Alan’s approach with his SME portfolio today; he has an eye on the future picture and maps the financial performance as part of the overall strategic business plan of his clients. This has seen him variously implement a strategic financial plan for a £3m manufacturing business to assure the financial health of the business, positioning it for sale. He has also introduced financial controls into a serviced office business that improved cash-flow performance reducing bad debt to nil, creating a two year rolling forecast that enabled the financial restructuring of the company. |
